Cannonhead Clash was initially released in July of 2019, following a preview on ZeroPage Homebrew, where it was titled "Bomb Game." The game's primary inspiration was the Minecraft minigame Bomb Lobbers. The Cannonheads themselves were inspired by Mega Man's Mets, and were originally designed for another project that fell through. Given the game's focus on projectile combat, the Cannonheads proved to be a natural fit for the game.
